News: No Issue With This Re-Issue - The Hamilton Intra-Matic Chronograph H

A lot of brands have, as of late, been looking to their back catalogues for new watches. Hamilton is no different. Last year it revived the first-ever electronic digital watch: the Hamilton Pulsar P1. The watch went down a treat with those reminiscing about their childhood era, and it seems in 2021, Hamilton is about to do it again—capturing retro hearts—with this: the Hamilton Intra-Matic Chronograph H.

This watch is incredibly faithful to chronographs of the 60s/70s. You have the stainless steel case with large protruding pushers and oversized crown, the panda—or reverse panda, depending on the chosen variation—bicompax styled dial and a manually-wound movement.

The contrasty dial is clean and minimal, with only the bare necessities filling the space. There is a tachymeter scale along the perimeter, two subdials—one for the seconds and one for the chronograph minutes—sword-shaped hands and applied hour markers with cream-tipped Super-LumiNova ends. All this works to create a vintage look not too different from the 1968 original the watch is based on.

Flipping over this 40mm watch reveals, well, a solid case back, but beneath that is the manual-winding Calibre H-51. Based on the ETA 7753, the Calibre H-51 runs at 28,800 vph and boasts a pretty impressive 60-hour power reserve—that’s six hours more than the new Longines Avigation BigEye, a re-edition with an ETA based movement that costs £1,000 more.

So, if you’re searching for a watch that has looks, heritage and won’t break the bank, then the Hamilton Intra-Matic Chronograph H watch isn’t a bad shout—especially being that it costs just over £1,800!
